Georgetown Wineries Day Trip From Austin, Texas.

You might not be expecting it, but Georgetown is home to tasting rooms for several Fredericksburg/290 wineries, but closer to Austin.

Georgetown square has plenty of adorable stores to stroll around in-between wineries, and unlike all of the other wine itineraries – you can walk between these. So either park up, or ride-share and enjoy, without having to worry about getting to multiple locations.

    Georgetown, Texas

North of Austin, with small town charm.

Georgetown is about a 30-45 minute drive north of Austin Texas. The charming town square is great for a leisurely stroll, look out for their market days on the second Saturday of the month to browse goods from local vendors.

It’s also home every April to the areas newest music festival, the Two Step Inn. A country music festival from the organizers of Austin City Limits Music Festival, you know it has to be good, and with shuttles from Austin, you have no excuses.

    Barons Creek Vineyards

Whites, and Rose, and Reds – oh my!

Barons Creek Vineyard is a tough recommendation to give, it’s tough because I think I enjoy every single wine on their menu.

So with that in mind, try a tasting. I love their Sauvignon Blanc, or Albariño on a hot summer day. If they have the Reserve Chardonnay – get some! It’s one of my favorite Texas Chardonnay – buttery, crisp, just yum.

For a hot day on the porch, you can’t go wrong with the Rose. I affectionately call it ‘danger wine’, it’s waaaay too easy to chug this back accidentally. It’s that good. Not too sweet, not too dry. Take some extras home. Please. (You can thank me later.)

For reds, there are no issues with the many selections there too. With favorites like their “Boots” Cabernet Sauvignon, or the ‘Velvet’, which tastes so smooth, like it’s name. The biggest challenge that you’re going to have is can you taste them all?

This is a must visit. No skipping this one, okay? They have a cute tasting room, but it has limited space, so plan if you want a tasting and you have a group. Otherwise sit up at the bar, or try to grab a table by the window, watch the world go by and start planning to make your trip to their vineyard on 290….

    Grape Creek Vineyards

    Big, bold, red.

Grape Creek is another big player in Texas wines. Part of the Heath Family of wineries, there are plenty to choose from here too.

The staff here at Grape Creek will have lots of great recommendations for you. Their tasting room here is cosy, but I consider them one of the big OG Texas wineries.

If you like bold reds, they have a bunch for you to try – as well as countless other wines.

    Go try!

    Georgetown Winery

Sweet, dry, and everything else inbetween.

Georgetown Winery also has a lot of different varietals to try – something a little unique about Georgetown Winery is their selection of sweet wines.

If you’re a sweet wine drinker, you might be feeling a little left out with lots of bold, dry, choices elsewhere- but with 9 sweet choices here, including fruit wines – there’s plenty for everyone.

They also have California Chardonnay, Oregon Pinot Noir, and many big Texas reds to choose from if you prefer something drier.

    Swallow Wines

Round Rock, somewhere to stop by on the way home.

Round Rock is on the way to (or from Georgetown), Swallow Wines boasts to be the only winery in Round Rock – and specializes in California wine.

Showcasing wines from 20 California winemakers, featuring 123 labels and 36 grape varietals – lots to try and enjoy.

    Shopping, Strolling, Sipping

With all the wine being so close, remember to pace yourself!

Georgetown square is pretty small, it’s great when they have things like market days or other events to enjoy but when it’s busy you may want to make reservations to avoid disappointment.

I hope you enjoyed my recommendations for visiting Georgetown.

    Cheers!
